The plan will create the framework to transform the area south of Van Aken Boulevard into a commercial district that is attractive, walkable, bikeable, and transit-friendly. In February, during “Phase I: Understand” of the Lee Road Action Plan, hundreds of residents and business owners attended Zoom meetings and completed a survey and polls, helping to create a vision for the future of Lee Road. This vision includes: • A revitalized Lee Road that is vibrant, inviting, safe, walkable, connected to nearby neighborhoods, and celebratory of the City’s history, diversity, and identity. • A commercial corridor that supports existing businesses and lays the groundwork to attract new ones. The corridor includes gathering spaces and supports safe travel for pedestrians, cyclists, and drivers. Building on Phase I, the past few months have marked “Phase 2: Shape” during which residents, property/business owners, and institutional partners have guided concept development at meetings and through online polls and surveys. The concepts integrate transportation and land use recommendations that are informed by economic and market analyses and community input. Review the potential concepts and learn more about the plan at shakeronline.com/leeactionplan. This fall, the planning team will move into “Phase 3: Define,” which will bring together all data and community/business input to help formalize a plan and develop an implementation strategy that will be presented to the public and adopted by City Council. City staff are now applying for grants and other funding with a goal of implementing the Lee Road Action Plan in 2025-2027.
