@lwvshaker The Columbus Dispatch reported
“in the absence of statewide LGBTQ+ protections,
a growing number of Ohio communities are taking
it upon themselves to enact ordinances to safeguard
personal rights. Note: #ShakerHeights is a community
that has enacted such ordinances.
Neighbor #1: My husband and I were with our children tonight at Cilantro
and I had a very great conversation with a woman who gave us some wonderful
advice about loving and raising our children. I didn’t get her name, but I hope she
is in this group and sees this post. These past few months have been extremely
trying on us as we navigate our daughter’s new diagnoses, and your words brought
such a sense of calming to us. Thank you again, neighbor, and thank you for leaving
our little family better than you found us. Neighbor #2: Beautifully said! I want
the best, and the resources in this community are unlimited. Love to your family.
Neighbor #3: This story makes me happy.
@JanineGreenASB Loving the
fact that my 2nd hand online book
purchase is from Shaker Heights public
library, which I now know to be in
Cleveland, Ohio (and is, FYI, the hometown
of Paul Newman) @ShakerOnline.

Thank you again to the voters

warm welcome!

Neighbor #1: A note of gratitude
for this wonderful neighborhood: Yesterday,
I placed an online order for same-day photos from
CVS. A few hours later, I got a text message from a
neighbor I did not know, indicating that CVS had
included my pictures with her order. Her daughter
recognized one of my sons from the cover photo on
the envelope for my order, so she took the liberty of
texting the phone number (mine) on the envelope
to arrange to drop off the photos. And today she did!
What a wonderful thing, to see and be seen, to know
and be known by our neighbors. Thank you, Janet!
Shaker Schools
Foundation
Neighbor #1: This moment of joy
brought to you by Motogo Cleveland,
an after school club at Shaker Heights High
School supported by the Shaker Schools
Foundation. This semester, students took
apart a motorcycle engine (quickly!) and
then rebuilt it, piece by piece (much more
slowly). The result? VROOM! What did
students like about the experience? “It was
a refreshing change from working online, to
build something with our hands,” says one
student. And another: “I got to spend time
with my friends while learning and building
something new.” Says another: “This was
such a cool experience. I don’t think a lot of
high schools let you build motorcycles.”
