A Night for the Red & White
Join the Shaker Schools Foundation
on Saturday, March 5, 2022 as we
celebrate 30 years of supporting the
Shaker Heights Schools at A Night for the
Red & White. The festivities will begin at
7 pm at the newly renovated Landerhaven
in Mayfield Heights with dinner, dancing,
student performances, online silent
auction, and raffle.
The theme for this year’s event
is Celebrating Generations of Shaker:
Past, Present & Future. The evening
will showcase families whose love for
the Shaker schools spans multiple

Shaker Heights High Schools Alumni Hall of Fame
Inducts Nine New Members
The Shaker Schools are known and admired around the globe, in no small part
due to the accomplishments of its many talented and caring alumni. The newest
inductees into the Shaker Schools Alumni Hall of Fame are no exception; they have
made significant contributions to the fields of law, ethics, global conservation,
corporate philanthropy, the performing arts, social justice, equity, and advocacy.
Congratulations to the new inductees.
• Bob Barber, Class of 1967, is a higher education leader and political activist who
helped free a U.S. citizen wrongfully imprisoned in Argentina in the 1970s.
• Hilary Beard, Class of 1980, is an award-winning writer, public speaker, trainer,
coach, and faith-walker focused on writing and educating around issues of racial
equity and bias.
• The Honorable Carolyn Gold, Class of 1974, is an elected judge to the San
Francisco Superior Court whose career in housing rights advocacy culminated in
running the Right to Civil Counsel program for tenants being evicted in San Francisco.
• Mark Davies Griffin, Class of 1981, is inspector general and chief ethics officer for
Cuyahoga County, who works to defend voting rights and battle public corruption.
• Ayesha Bell Hardaway, Class of 1993, is a legal scholar, analyst and professor of
law who champions issues of social justice and police reform.
• Andrea Johnson, Class of 1994, is a conservationist, climate activist, and tropical
forest expert who works to prevent deforestation and secure the land rights of
indigenous peoples.
• Rev. Dr. Otis Moss III, Class of 1988, is a renowned preacher, activist, and author
who speaks out on the issues of mass incarceration, environmental justice, and
economic inequality.
• Cecilia H. Render, Class of 1979, is a leader in corporate philanthropy who serves
as executive director of the Nordson Corporation Foundation, supporting
educational opportunities and advancement.
• Thomas Young, Class of 1964, is a Grammy and Clio award-winning lyric opera
tenor who has performed leading roles with world-renowned opera companies and
on Broadway.
The inductees will be honored at a dinner at the Shaker Heights Country Club on
Saturday, May 21, 2022. All are welcome to attend the dinner; ticket information will
be available closer to the date at shakerschoolsfoundation.org/alumni. The inductees
will also share their stories and inspiring remarks with students at Shaker Heights
High School on Monday, May 23.
These outstanding alumni join the 308 graduates who have been inducted in the
