Wild donkeys roam the island. Shannon said this fellow was very old and had a deformed ear. Donkeys have been around on Bonaire since the 17th century. The
Spanish brought the donkeys for transportation. When modern vehicles became available, donkeys were left to their fate.
Colorful architecture dots the shopping street of Kaya Grandi in the
capital city of Kralendijk. Shannon said visitors can use your credit cards,
but the ones most often accepted are Visa and Mastercard. There isn’t an
option to leave a tip on the receipt, so bring cash (they deal in the American
dollar) for a tip or when the waitress is typing in your meal amount,
ask her to add money to what she types in.
Willemstoren Lighthouse. Bonaire’s first lighthouse
was built in 1837. Locals stop here to collect pieces of
driftwood in spectacular shapes and to build fanciful
pyramids from objects that have washed ashore.
