Jennifer Hopper has been in cosmetology
and skincare for over 20 years, stepping into
the field after working as a nail technician for
several years.
“I just decided one day to do something
different and I was looking at the top 10 jobs in
the year 2000 and esthetician was one of them.
I’m so glad I did it, because I absolutely love it,”
Hopper said.
Although Dermaculture didn’t open until last
September, Hopper has been operating her own
business for the last 10 years.
“I’ve always liked to make people feel good
and pretty. Everyone leaves here so happy and
confident. We try to make sure everyone leaves
satisfied with their treatment,” she said.
The spa offers a variety of services, including
facials, laser hair removal, spray tanning
and dermaplaning. There are four licensed
estheticians on staff, including Hopper, as well
as a nurse practitioner to administer botox and
fillers.
Hopper and her staff serve many different
types of clients, but they also serve a large
number of brides in anticipation of their
weddings.
The esthetician recommends brides begin
seeing them eight to 10 months before their big
day.
“People try and come in a week or two before
their wedding and that can turn out pretty bad,
because they can have a bad reaction to it,”
Hopper said. “We also have a lot of brides come
in just to get dermaplaning done instead of a
facial.”
Dermaplaning is a procedure that exfoliates
the skin and gets rid of dirt and vellus hair,
better known as “peach fuzz.”
“It’s everybody’s favorite. Even if they haven’t
been getting regular facials. It gives them that
healthy glow and makes their skin look amazing
and it also helps the makeup artist,” Hopper
said. “The biggest myth surrounding it is that
the vellus hair grows back thicker and darker,
and that’s just not true. It grows back the same,
like peach fuzz.”
In addition to these bridal treatments, the
spa also hosts bridal showers in their lobby
area and provides the bridal party with body
treatments, facials and massage therapy.
Hopper recommends getting a facial every
four weeks to prevent dullness and to give your
skin a chance to regenerate all on its own.
“This also isn’t a one size fits all treatment.
We have several different facials people can
choose from, such as hydrafacials, which is
great for dry skin, microderm, microneedling
and oxygen facials,” she said.
With summer right around the corner,
Hopper’s biggest recommendation for skin care
is sunscreen.
“If someone couldn’t use any product in the
world except for one, it would be sunscreen,”
Hopper said. “It keeps your skin from getting
aged by the sun and causing damage. It also
prevents color pigmentation, like age spots, and
it just keeps skin more youthful. I have clients
all the time saying they wish they had known
that a long time ago.”
Hopper went on to say a lot of people can get
intimidated by skincare products, but finding
the right regimen can be a fun process once
they find what works for them in their routine
and budget. Hopper said they offer a variety of
products to their clients to help them achieve
their skincare goals.
“You need to invest in your skin because it
is going to represent you for a very long time,”
she said. “Let us help you put your best face
forward.”
