It could be the rich aroma of coffee or freshly baked
bread that draws visitors from Broad Street into a new
shop - The Sharp Sickle.
The new coffee shop opened in late March and is a
Christian-based coffee shop that employs missionaries
from all over the country under the Awaken Ministry.
Megan Stager is part owner of The Sharp Sickle.
She’s also the kitchen manager and a missionary from
Washington.
“The Holy Spirit really prompted us to move here,”
Stager reflected on how the ministry was called to Rome
to start a new journey. With no connections and trusting
their faith, the ministry moved to Rome to open their
coffee shop.
So far, Stager says, their journey has worked out
because they put their trust in the Lord.
The ministry was called to Rome to foster peace and
spread their message, she says. They do so by creating a
positive and welcoming atmosphere through purposeful
decisions.
“Come as you are. Come and really experience love
and truth,” Stager says.
“Do all things with your whole heart as you’re working
for God,” she adds. “We want people to experience
things in everything they do.”
This ranges from the coffee customers drink to the
decor and the service they receive. Stager says they
get quality ingredients and make all of their food items
to the best of their ability. They do this by researching
each product and buying high quality products that have
longevity.
“I don’t believe if Jesus walked in here that I would
want to serve Him something I wouldn’t drink,” She
added. “We want to honor people and serve them…
because that’s what Jesus did.”
But coffee isn’t the only thing visitors to The Sharp
Sickle can enjoy. Freshly baked pastries are also on the
menu. The counter is lined with colorful muffins and
loaves. Those with gluten sensitivity aren’t forgotten
either.
“A lot of people say that there are no other gluten free
pastries like it,” Stager said pointing to the freshly baked
bread behind the counter.
Go-to items she recommends include the iced light
roast caramel latte, the blueberry banana and the lemon
pastry.
The Sharp Sickle is located at 329 Broad St. and is
open everyday.
