An Amazing Race
In September, staff members from the Rome Smiles
dental office took on an adventurous challenge around
Rome. They participated in an Amazing Race-type team
building event.
As part of the
challenge, the teams
used the event to collect
donations for the Rome
Ga Cares organization in
its efforts to aid victims
of Hurricane Ida.
Teams of employees
raced around downtown
Rome on the Roman
Chariot and in golf carts
driven by Daisy, Johnette and Bill. The race was sponsored
by the City Creamery where one of the challenges was to
guess ice cream flavors blindfolded.
At SpringStone Yoga, they raced through yoga exercises
and the city of Rome gave the teams special access to the
top of the Clocktower so they could be there when the bell
struck one o’clock. If they
missed the bell, they’d
have to take on an extra
task.
The Rome Area History
Center was also a stop in
the race and contained
a hidden clue while Fire
Station One loaned the
teams a pair of pants and
boots which they had to take
to the lobby of Synovus Bank
to be weighed on their scale.
Even the historic Floyd
County Courthouse was
featured in their challenge as
it was where the teams had
to complete a cryptogram and
solve a murder mystery to
receive their next task.
Team White won the race
but organizers said everyone
had a great time. They got to
see and learn about downtown
Rome and, most importantly,
Lt. James Womack of the
Floyd County Sheriff’s Office
was at the finish line to receive the teams’ collected
donations for Rome Ga Cares. Those donations where
then included
in a convoy of
volunteers and
supplies that
made its way
to Louisiana in
late September
to assist with
cleaning and
rebuilding efforts.
