2021-2022 | CLASS ACT 23
said. “This drill showed us
the importance of our focus
on training and practice
and will help us further
refine our procedures. I’m
very proud of School Police
Chief Buster Cushing and
Emergency Operations
Facilitator Danielle Ross
for organizing such a
successful event, and I’m
grateful for the strong
support of our community’s
law enforcement and public
safety agencies.”
CCSD School Police
Officers are supported in
their work by the significant
investment made by
the School Board into
improving the safety and
security of facilities.
Recent initiatives have
included the installation of
additional security foyers in
schools; the addition of
camera and buzz-in systems
to all school main
entrances; the increase in
the number of interior and
exterior security cameras;
and the implementation of
the Vector (formerly Safe-
Schools) Alert system,
which greatly expanded the
ability for students, parents,
staff and the community
to report safety concerns,
with the option to do
so anonymously.
The Vector Alert system
allows students, parents,
school staff and everyone in
the community to anonymously
report safety
concerns by text, email,
online message, phone call
or through a smartphone
app.
Through Vector Alert,
you can submit safety
concerns to CCSD five
different ways:
1. By Phone:
470.315.9171
2. By Text: 470.315.9171
3. By Email: 1695@
alert1.us
4. By Online message:
https://cherokee-ga.
safeschoolsalert.com/
5. By Mobile App –
Download the Vector Alert
app for free from the
iPhone App Store and
Google Play for Android
phones. The app icon is a
white and red V on a blue
background (see “There’s
an App for That” on page
18). The first time you
open the app after downloading,
you’ll need to enter
1695 for the ID and confirm
your District is the Cherokee
County School District.
Vector Alert can be
used to report information
about threats to school
safety, bullying, harassment,
drugs, vandalism or
any other safety issue,
including the ability to
report if you believe a
student is experiencing a
mental health or emotional
crisis.
CCSD School Police and
School Operations administrators
are notified of
every tip, so they can
investigate and take appropriate
action. This system
is closely monitored,
making it much more
effective than sending a
message to CCSD social
media accounts or a CCSD
email address. If you are
experiencing an emergency,
please call 911, as Vector
Training is key for CCSD School Police, who often coordinate
efforts with other local public safety agencies to prepare for various
crisis scenarios.
CCSD officers are a great resource for the Criminal Justice programs
at CCSD high schools, planning visits and speakers like
this one at Etowah HS.
Alert is not a replacement
for the rapid response
deployed by 911 dispatchers.
The “Safe Schools”
company has changed
its service name to
“Vector Alert.” If you
downloaded the app
previously, the former
app (a white and red
lifering) will update to
the new Vector Alert
app (pictured above).
