KIDS STUFF
If you’re traveling with kids, these activities should
strike a chord with your little ones.
The Critter Tour
Finding the critters can make for
a great activity for a rain-free day.
Bison, llama, goats, sled dogs and
lots’a trout can keep the little ones
interested for an hour or so. Watch the kids
around the trout pools at the Reynoldsdale Fish
Hatchery. In the history of the trout hatchery,
only a few people have ever fallen into the pools.
Don’t make history. More info on page 50.

the pool at Blue Knob State Park. Lake swimming, a
beach area and a nice playground can be found
at Shawnee State Park. See page 13 more more
information.
Covered Bridges (see pages 28-29)
Begin your tour with the Claycomb Covered
Bridge at the entrance to Old Bedford Village!
Covered Bridge enthusiasts come from all over the
world to see our bridges. Our Covered Bridge Guide has
statistics about each bridge and a map of locations
which you can request. The county map inside the
back cover of this guide is excellent for showing
locations. If you’d like to visit 9 of our bridges, the
driving tour on p. 28 of this guide is a great little tour.
Gravity Hill
Experience the famous Gravity HIll near New
Paris while touring the Covered Bridges !
Have you ever wanted to defy gravity? Oh sure, you
could book a seat on the space shuttle, but by the time
you buy a ticket, rent your space suit and drive to the
launch site, you’ll have well over $10 invested. For a lot
less money (free, actually), you can defy gravity right
here in Bedford County. Gravity Hill is a phenomenon.
Cars roll uphill & water flows the wrong way. It is a
place where gravity has gone haywire. Why it happens,
we can’t say. But, whatever the reason, you can tell
your friends that you made it to the often talked about,
but seldom found Gravity Hill.
HOW TO GET THERE: From Rt. 30, drive to the
town of Schellsburg. From there, turn north onto Rt. 96
towards New Paris. Drive about 3.8 miles and turn left
onto Bethel Hollow Road. Drive for .6 mile and bear
to your left at the “Y” in the road. After another 1.5
miles you’ll come upon an intersection that has a stop
sign (for oncoming traffic only). Bear
right onto this road and drive .2 mile,
looking for the letters “GH” spray
painted on the road. Go past the first
“GH” letters to the second painted
“GH.” Congratulations Pilgrim, you
have arrived.
