Walk the Heritage Trail between
Bedford and the Bedford Springs!
Hiking and Running
There are many excellent hiking trails to explore in Bedford County. In addition to
biking, you can also hike or walk along the TOPP Trail and H&BT Rail Trail. (see biking)
You can also head to Shawnee State Park where you will find 15 miles of hiking trails
ranging from easy to moderately difficult. We recommend the popular Lake Shore Trail
for a simple 3.4 mile loop around the lake. For mountain hiking, Blue Knob State Park is
your spot. This state park has 17 miles of moderate to difficult trails through changing
timber types and crossing streams.

For long hikes, the Mid State Trail goes right through Tenley Park in Everett and runs over
260 miles, from the Maryland border all the way to the New York border. For info contact

Biking
Bedford County offers a variety of on and off-road biking experiences. For the on-road
cyclists, we’ve included the popular Rainsburg/Colerain Township bike loop on page 11.

For a safe and easy route between the town of Bedford
and the Bedford Springs Hotel, we recommend the Bedford
Heritage Trail. To access this trail, head south on Richard
Street in Bedford to the end of the sidewalk. The newly
completed Heritage Trail picks up there and continues
about 2 miles south to the Bedford Springs Hotel.

The new Huntingdon and Broad Top Rail Trail, which reuses a
former railroad right-of-way to provide public recreational
along the Raystown Branch of the Juniata River, is now complete! It is open to hikers and
bikers with 10.6 miles of trail open between Riddlesburg at the north end and Tatesville
at the south. (see right for locations)
Progress continues on a former 10 mile section of The Old PA Turnpike, complete with
two tunnels. Periodic events are happening on the TOPP Trail, formerly known as Pike
to Bike. The trail can be accessed from a pull-off just east of Breezewood at Rt. 30 and
Tannery Road. (39°59’59.61”N 78°13’41.20”W) Headlights are a must. Please observe
all posted signs.
North and South Trailheads
North Trailhead – Take Rt. 26 north from Everett for 15 miles.
Turn right on Six Mile Run Rd. and right again on Newton Rd
to Riddlesburg Park Trailhead.
South Trailhead – Take Rt. 26 north from Everett for 2 miles.
Turn right onto Plank Rd. at Brite Spot Pizza. Follow for 0.2
mile to stop sign, bear left on Plank Rd. Travel 0.1 mile to the
Tatesville Trailhead parking on left.
Tenley Park, Everett
A 77 acre community
park in Everett, Tenley
offers family hiking
trails, a playground,
geocaching and two
pavilions. A great
place for family outings,
romantic picnics, or
solace on your lunch hour.
From W. Main St. in Everett, turn onto N Spring St. Take the 2nd right onto E
1st St. Drive up the hill & veer left at N Hopewell St. Take the 4th right into
Tenley Park.
