BBB RATINGS
What Does It Mean?
Business Record
The type of business and the length
of time in business are important
elements to the BBB rating
Complaint History
An analysis of a company’s complaint
history with BBB plays the biggest
role to determining a rating. The
number of complaints, size of
business and how the complaints
were settled all factor in.
Proper Licensing
Failure to obtain necessary licenses
and pending or finalized government
actions against the business, raise
questions about the business’ ethics or
reliability and can affect their rating.
BBB relies on an A+ through F
letter-grade scale. While the rating
system seems simplified, the actual
formula is based on 13 factors
on objective information and a
structured point system, combined
to produce an accurate rating. BBB
has structured the building blocks
of attributes that determine a
credible business - the rating is an
evaluation of how well those blocks
are put together.
The ratings are changed and
reviewed constantly. Any time
new information is reported to or
collected by BBB and evaluated by
our professionals, that information
is loaded into our database,
which automatically updates the
business’s rating.
