Noah, The end of all flesh is come
before me; for the earth is filled
with violence through them; and,
behold, I will destroy them with
the earth. Make thee an ark of
gopher wood (Genesis 6:13,14). The
Lord went on to tell Noah exactly how
to build the ark. It took him and his
family 120 years to complete that ark,
but they held on to God and finished
the job.

The widow woman held on to what
the prophet Elijah told her during a
great famine, and the Lord provided
all she and her family needed. When
Elijah arrived at the widow woman’s
house, she was gathering sticks to
make one last, little cake for her and
her son; and then they would starve
to death. But Elijah told her, Fear
not; go and do as thou hast said:
but make me thereof a little cake
first, and bring it unto me, and
after make for thee and for thy
son. For thus saith the LORD God
of Israel, The barrel of meal shall
not waste, neither shall the cruse
of oil fail, until the day that the
LORD sendeth rain upon the earth
(I Kings 17:13,14).
That woman knew Elijah was a man
of God, so she obeyed his words and
held on through faith. Then the miracle
of supply took place. You too have to
hold on to God’s promises without any
doubt. The Bible says, But let him
ask in faith, nothing wavering. For
he that wavereth is like a wave of
the sea driven with the wind and
tossed. For let not that man think
that he shall receive anything of
the Lord (James 1:6,7). You can
never let your faith waver.
God promised Abraham He would
give him a son even though he was
100 years old, and Sarah was 90.
And God said, Sarah thy wife shall
bear thee a son indeed; and thou
shalt call his name Isaac: and I
will establish my covenant with
him for an everlasting covenant,
and with his seed after him (Genesis
17:19). It took God 25 years to fulfill
that promise, but Abraham held fast to
the plan of God through faith because
he knew God’s promises were true.
Lot Held On to God
Lot held on to what the Lord said
when the cities of Sodom and Gomorrah
were going to be destroyed. Two angels
warned Lot to take his family and leave
saying, For we will destroy this
place, because the cry of them is
waxen great before the face of the
LORD; and the LORD hath sent us to
destroy it (Genesis 19:13).
The angels were leading Lot, his
two daughters and his wife out of the
city; but Lot’s wife didn’t hold on to the
words of the Lord, and she looked back.
And it came to pass, when they
the angels had brought them forth
abroad, that he said, Escape for thy
life; look not behind thee, neither
stay thou in all the plain; escape
to the mountain, lest thou be
consumed. But his wife looked back
from behind him, and she became a
pillar of salt (Genesis 19:17,26).
There are many Christians today
who are just pillars of worthless salt
because they are looking back to the
world rather than holding fast to the
things of God. When you hold fast, you
are moving forward, not backwards; and
Jesus is your everything. That means
He is your faith, so why would you ever
doubt? Why use human faith when you
can use divine faith? Human faith fails,
but divine faith never fails. It brings
victory every time!
Holding On Brings Victory
Joseph’s brothers sold him into
slavery, and he was persecuted for
years. He was lied about and sent to
prison; but through it all, he held on to
