both man and woman, young and old, and
ox, and sheep, and ass, with the edge of the
sword (Joshua 6:20,21). Through obedience,
the Israelites helped God make a miracle; and
they won the victory.
Your Walls Can Come Down
Child of God, when you are faced with a
great obstacle in your life, do you settle down
in the Lord and seek His face for divine direction;
or do you become restless and seek your
own way to deal with that obstacle? The Bible
says, Study to be quiet (I Thessalonians
4:11). It is during those quiet times of prayer
that the Lord can guide you and direct you.
I’m sure the people inside the walls of Jericho
thought the Israelite army had a foolish
strategy when faced with what seemed to be a
huge obstacle. How do you handle the obstacles
in your life? Do you look to God for the
answer and yield to Him? People may think
you are foolish when they see you depending
on miracles; but when the miracle takes place,
many will become believers.
In man’s eyes, it seemed impossible for the
walls of Jericho to come down just by marching
around them; but the Bible says that the
captain of God’s host—meaning an angel—
appeared to Joshua to let him know that they
had divine help. And it came to pass, when
Joshua was by Jericho, that he lifted up his
eyes and looked, and, behold, there stood
a man over against him with his sword
drawn in his hand: and Joshua went unto
him, and said unto him, Art thou for us,
or for our adversaries? And he said, Nay;
but as captain of the host of the LORD am
I now come. And Joshua fell on his face to
the earth, and did worship, and said unto
him, What saith my lord unto his servant
(Joshua 5:13,14)?
The Israelite army and the people of Jericho
could not see God’s host of angels, but they
were there just waiting for the trumpet to sound
so they could help God perform a great miracle.
He has a host of angels who are ready to do
battle for you too if you will only believe.
God is the one who will knock down the
walls in your life if you will let Him. You just
have to obey Him. It doesn’t matter whether
others believe or not. The Bible says, Let God
be true, but every man a liar (Romans 3:4).
Worship Only God
Study the three Hebrew boys. In the eyes of
the king and his subjects, the three Hebrew
boys probably looked foolish because they
refused to bow to the golden image; but it
didn’t matter what everybody else thought.
Those boys were going to do what God wanted
them to do and help Him make a miracle.
King Nebuchadnezzar worshipped idols, and
he made a huge, golden statue that he wanted
his whole kingdom to worship. When the
statue was dedicated, an herald cried aloud,
To you it is commanded, O people, nations,
and languages, That at what time ye hear
the sound of the cornet, flute, harp, sackbut,
psaltery, dulcimer, and all kinds of music, ye
fall down and worship the golden image that
Nebuchadnezzar the king hath set up: And
whoso falleth not down and worshippeth
shall the same hour be cast into the midst of
a burning fiery furnace (Daniel 3:4–6).
At that time, the Jews had been taken captive
into Babylon; and each person had a decision
to make—bow down to the golden image
and live or refuse to bow and die. Those who
decided to bow to the image would break God’s
commandments that said, Thou shalt have
no other gods before me (Exodus 20:3). Ye
shall make you no idols nor graven image,
neither rear you up a standing image, neither
shall ye set up any image of stone in
your land, to bow down unto it: for I am
