She met her husband of 57 years at a
church Halloween party around the age of 16.
After school, she moved away to California
but as fate would have it they met again and
married on Jan. 20, 1944, on the Treasure
Island Navy Base in California.
Johnson remembers hearing lots of horns
and whistles from the naval base on that
day and she still speaks of her blue wedding
dress. She and her husband have two sons
together, Rick and Chris.
After her husband finished college, they
moved around for a bit but ended up in
Atlanta. During this time she worked as a
secretary and receptionist for an attorney and
the IRS before she retired.
When asked how it feels to be 100 years
old, her response was that “it feels like any
other day, but now I feel old!”

Habitat for Humanity,
NW Metro Atlanta ends
2020 with dedication
of a house
BY DAMON POIRIER
Smyrna-based Habitat for Humanity of NW
Metro Atlanta dedicated its final house of
2020 on Bowdon Street in Austell in late
November, thanks to sponsors Assurant, Citi,
Nissan and Axis.
The house was the 19th annual home build
with Habitat of NW Metro Atlanta chapter
supported by the Assurant Foundation. Due to
COVID restrictions, the build was completed
exclusively by skilled workers who work with
the affiliate on a part-time basis.
The house was dedicated to the Fuller
Family. Ms. Fuller is a single mother of a
15-year-old high school student and 19-year-old
college student. She works as a lead bus driver
for Connect Douglas public transportation.
