Teri Anulewicz
What do you do in your role?
I serve in the Georgia House of Representatives,
and am the voice at the Capitol for
dynamic and diverse Cobb communities that
include downtown Smyrna, Rose Garden,
the Battery, Fair Oaks, Franklin Gateway,
Dobbins, as well as parts of Marietta,
including Meeting Park, the south edge of
the Marietta Square and the Victory Park
neighborhood. I serve on the House
Transportation Committee, as well as the
House Working Group for the Creative Arts
and Entertainment. I also serve as the
Secretary for the Cobb Legislative Delegation.
What drives you to be successful?
Knowing that my community relies on me to
be their voice at the Capitol drives me to be
successful, to work diligently to serve them
downtown and to also be present and accessible
to them here in Cobb. I represent a
broad group of stakeholders that range from
organizations as large as the Atlanta Braves,
to mom-and-pop small businesses, as well
as families from across the economic
spectrum. It is my job to tell their stories, and
to ensure that I am doing my best for the
with every vote I make, and also to clearly
communicate to them how the work we do
in the House impacts them back here in
Marietta in Smyrna.
Representative, House District 42
Georgia House of Representatives
What are some of your hobbies
outside of work? Cooking, knitting,
sewing and hiking are a few of my favorite
ways to spend time. I also love dining out,
and taking advantage of the range of
incredible local restaurants in HD 42.
What lessons have you learned in
2020? While it is true that there are people
who can always hit new lows, it is just as
true that the goodness within us will always
triumph. I see that every time I witness
selfless acts of courage from front line
medical responders and public safety
personnel. I see that when our community
masks up to keep our teachers and retail
workers safe. I see it when we support our
neighborhood restaurants and small
businesses. We have an incredibly generous
community that is anchored by nonprofit
groups that help families and individuals in
our neighborhoods every day, and the
goodness and dedication we have for each
other has never been more apparent than
during this pandemic.
Other personal anecdotes, quotes or
insights: I am a huge believer in etiquette
and protocol, particularly as the environment
at the Capitol becomes - and I believe this is
regrettable - increasingly partisan. Courtesy
and respect are about the only things that
keep the wheels from falling off down there!
Regardless of whether someone agrees with
me or supports me, I truly try to approach
them with honesty and consideration, and
respect their dignity as an individual.
