Meet Some of Our
Awesome Library Staff
Karen Setser is a Youth Services
Associate, who began work at the Library
in 2018 as a Page. When a position
opened in Youth Services, she jumped at
the opportunity to
work with children.
“I have always
loved libraries
and thoroughly
enjoy helping
children pick out
books based on
their interests.
I’m always thrilled
when they come
back and tell me how much they loved a
book I suggested,” says Setser.
Setser was born and raised in Wayne,
New Jersey; her parents were teachers.
She earned her BA in English from James
Madison University in Virginia. While
living in Charlottesville, she met her
future husband, Jason, and after several
moves around the country for his work,
they settled in Shaker Heights. They have
two children, Emma, a seventh grader at
Shaker Middle School and Colin, a third
grader at Lomond School. “Our family is
quite happy here, and we intend for both
of our children to graduate from Shaker
Heights High School,” she says.
She enjoys reading news articles,
biographies, true crime, and especially
likes reading to her son, Colin. Her
favorite books include Little Women by
Louisa May Alcott, She’s Come Undone by
Wally Lamb, Holes by Louis Sachar, Anne
of Green Gables by L.M. Montgomery,
all of James Herriot’s books, The Wizard
of Oz series, and anything by Jane
Austen. She reads eBooks and listens
to audiobooks, but prefers the feel of a
physical book.
Her hobbies include jigsaw puzzles,
crafting, singing, and playing the flute.
As an enthusiastic staff member, Setser
shares her many talents with the Library
community, most recently as a member
of the Shaker Heights Community Band.
