n Neighbor #1:
A moment of deep
gratitude. Last night my son
and I decided we wanted to be
out and about so we pushed
the DoorDash button on our
phone and began making a
few deliveries. We grew a bit
tired but decided that we could make one more: to Benihana. As we arrived
at the address of our customer, I was contemplating if this would in fact be
our last delivery. Throughout the evening as I was driving, I was thinking of
all the many things I was grateful for, and just quietly to myself spoke of the
gratitude I had for my son, my little car, the blessings of the year, etc.
Sometimes in the evening it’s a little hard for me to see addresses on the
houses at night so when I arrived at the street, I called the customer to ask if
they could help me identify their home. A gentleman came outside and I got
out and approached him. He took the bag with one hand; I saw him extending
his other hand with a tip, but it looked so unusual because of the way he
was holding it. When I took the tip into my hand I almost passed out. This
gentleman gave me a VERY large wad of cash – for a one-bag delivery.
I now see that I sound really silly because I kept insisting he was
making a mistake. It was so much I could barely speak. I felt a little numb,
but I recall him saying over and over again “Happy New Year, Happy New Year,
Happy New Year.” I got to the car and yelled my son’s name to let him know
what just happened and we sat there for a moment just looking at all this
money. I pulled up the road and my son reached over and said to me ‘Let’s go
home and bring in the new year now, mom. We’re done for the day.’
To this Shaker neighbor: I tried to go back on the app and send you a
message thanking you but it wouldn’t allow me as too many minutes had
passed. The system erases all contact.
I need you to know how grateful I am for the blessing you gave
me, that compassionate caring act to a complete stranger. I don’t know what
pull you had inside of you to do that for me, but I think the intention was to
set me up for a feeling of well-being. To bless me with a feeling of abundance.
You started my year off in a way I never would have expected.
I don’t know who you are but I believe I understand your intention. We send
our appreciation and love and thank you so very much. Happy New Year
to you and your family, and friends always! n Neighbor #2: Great story!!
Shaker residents are some of the best!! n Neighbor #3: Beautiful!
Neighbor #4: Random acts of kindness are beautiful, some day you or your
son will remember and pay it forward. It’s a wonderful feeling. You were
touched by an angel! Neighbor #5: This story made me cry such happy tears.
Neighbor #6: Wonderful story! Renews one’s faith in humanity, especially
at a time like NOW! And your son was very wise to cap off the evening at that
moment! Neighbor #7: I LOVE everything about this story. All I can say is
please do not end this beautiful cycle. Pass it on. There’s always ways to help
others and make their days a little brighter. Sometimes it’s money, sometimes
a helpful hand or just a big, sincere smile. Happy New Year!! SL

do school at home, and especially trying to do
PE at home, and thought this would be a great
way to give kids an opportunity to have fun and
get some exercise,” she said. Thank you to the
