n Another beautiful
Sunday in Shaker. Love the
train access to Van Aken, and
looks like the road closure/
outdoor seating is here to stay.

Living in Shaker
n Neighbor #1:
Does anyone know
who the boy on the left is?
This was 2004 and I think
he was a junior or senior at
SHHS. I ask because my son
is on the right. When my
son was 5, this boy taught
him how to swim and he
made the entire experience
so much fun. Those swim
lessons put my son on an
incredible life
journey with
swimming. This
boy told my son
if he just swam
across the pool he
could be a Shaker
Shark. So the
whole summer they worked on that and then by the end of
summer of 2004 my son did it and became a Shaker Shark.
My son swam all these years growing up, then high school,
and is now 22 and will wrap up his collegiate swimming
career next year. I have always wanted to reach out to this
boy and thank him. Sometimes you have no idea how one
small thing has a huge ripple effect. n Neighbor #2: How
awesome! n Neighbor #3: What a beginning and a great
story! I remember some cold June morning swim lessons for
the kids at Thornton, but they persevered! I hope you can
connect with him! Neighbor #4: They should reconnect
and take a photo together! Would love to see them together.
n Neighbor #5: What a beautiful story. Made my heart
skip a beat. n Neighbor #6: You never know the impact
you have on someone. Beautiful story.
Fernway
n Neighbor #1: Mr. Donald Coffee, former
principal of Fernway Elementary School,
stopped by the newly improved Fernway playground
recently to try out the bench that is named in his
honor. We are grateful to the many donors who
sponsored new benches, tables, and bike racks at this
fabulous gathering space for the whole neighborhood!
We invite you to stroll over to take your own “Coffee”
break. (Sorry, we had to.) n Neighbor #2: On a scale
of one to infinity, how much do you love this?
